After years of hype, the new Black Ops 7 campaign has finally dropped – and it’s hard not to feel let down. For a series that once gave us gripping plots and clever twists, this one feels flat. Missions happen, sure, but they don’t tie together in any way that makes you care. You jump from scene to scene with no real hook, and before long you realise you’re just going through the motions. Even for long-time fans, it’s tough to find that spark we used to get. Honestly, you might have more fun setting up a CoD BO7 Bot Lobby than playing through this story.
The biggest issue is the plot – or what’s left of it. You’ll be dropped into a futuristic city one moment, then a muddy battlefield the next, with barely any reason why. The game tries to be clever, like the older entries, but it’s all noise without substance. Characters have no depth; your own role feels like an empty shell. Even familiar faces from past games show up without much purpose, almost like they’re ticking a nostalgia box rather than adding to the story. There’s no tension, no payoff – just a jumble of scenes that never really land.
Gameplay doesn’t help much either. Too many missions turn into “follow this guy while he talks” corridors, with little room to experiment or explore. The open-ended approach from earlier games is gone. Instead, you’re stuck in shooting galleries that feel dated. There’s one mission in a flooded lab that could’ve been atmospheric and tense, but it’s just locked doors and predictable fights. Enemy AI is laughable at times – running straight into gunfire or getting stuck in place – which kills any sense of immersion. It’s hard to feel invested when the game itself seems to be on autopilot.
What’s worse is how far it’s drifted from what made Black Ops special. The grit, the paranoia, the shadowy conspiracies – all missing. What’s left is overly polished, but in a way that strips away personality. It feels rushed, like the campaign was an afterthought compared to multiplayer. And while the online side might still deliver fast action, the single-player here is forgettable. If you’re looking for that old Black Ops vibe, you won’t find it. At this point, you might be better off skipping the campaign entirely and just u4gm CoD BO7 Bot Lobbies to get your fix.
